By Francis Allan L. Angelo
THE Iloilo provincial government under Gov. Arthur D. Defensor Sr. is eyeing to spend more or less P800 million in the next three years to improve the facilities and services of 12 provincial and district hospitals.

In a presentation to the Infrastructure Summit of the Iloilo Business Club Wednesday, Provincial Administrator Raul N. Banias said the projects to improve hospitals are included in the Hospital Reforms Enhancement Program (HREP).

The HREP has two components in a span of three years.

Component 1 will focus on the infrastructure, personnel and systems improvement of four hospitals:

– Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan (P177.26 million);

– Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital (MDH) in Guimbal (P193.39 million);

– Ramon Tabiana MDH in Cabatuan (P173.31 million); and

– Sara District Hospital (P155.49 million).

Component 2 includes compliance with DoH licensing and Philippine Health Insurance Corp. accreditation of eight hospitals:

- Aleosan District Hospital in Alimodian (14.11 million);

- Dr. Ricardo Ladrido MDH in Lambunao (P18.42 million);

- Federico Roman Tirador Sr. MDH in Janiuay (P10.41 million);

- Dr. Ricardo Provido Sr. MDH in Calinog (P20.25 million);

- Don Valeriano Palmares Sr. MDH in Passi City (P21.87 million);

- Dumangas District Hospital in Dumangas (P19.45 million);

- Barotac Viejo District Hospital in Barotac Viejo (P12.91 million); and

- Jesus Colmenares District Hospital in Balasan (P11.89 million).

Banias said the project costs are just indicative amounts that are still under review by the provincial government.

“As of now, our estimates is around P500 million. We are reviewing the figures submitted by the hospitals,” Banias said.

The possible sources of funds for HREP are the Internal Revenue Allocation of the provincial government, local sources and bank loan.

Gov. Defensor had vowed to improve of services of district hospitals by enhancing their capabilities, equipment and infrastructure to allow indigents to avail of quality health care.
