City College donation inspires benefactors

BENEVOLENCE can be infectious.

The P25-million donation of Ilonggo businessman Edgar “Injap” Sia II for the construction of the Iloilo City public college building has caught the interest of other benefactors.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that news of Sia’s generosity “inspired others abroad particularly a family who is willing to donate 10 brand new laptop computers for the use of the City College.”

“This is a strong indication of public-private partnership,” Mabilog said.

Mabilog said he will also ask for assistance to various projects from the Ilonggo community in the U.S. during his visit there next week.

Sia’s commitment to establish the City College at the 869-square meter old BFAR (Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources) building site in San Pedro, Molo district was a welcome development in time for the opening of next school year 2011.

The chairman and CEO of Mang Inasal Philippines and Injap Investments committed for the construction of 30- to 35-classroom facility equipped with a computer lab, cafeteria and a school administration office.

Mabilog said they will soon sit down with the Commission on Higher Education to discuss the courses to be offered. They will also talk with former councilor Erlinda Liberiaga to lay down plans on finalizing the school faculty. (Iloilo City PIO)
