City Hall to expand jaywalking coverage

THE Iloilo City government will also impose the anti-jaywalking ordinance in other districts starting November.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the ordinance will be implemented in La Paz and Mandurriao following its implementation in the City proper district.

Mabilog said it is high time to impose the ordinance in other districts to ease traffic flow and decrease road accidents.

The mayor observed that a number of people do not use the pedestrian lanes and overpasses near Gaisano City area in La Paz and SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao.

However, the mayor said starting November 2 to 15, violators will only be given a citation ticket and lecture but will not be fined. But on November 16 onwards, they will be fined for violating the ordinance which imposes fines to persons who cross the street without using pedestrian lanes or overpasses. Fine is P50 and/or imprisonment of not more than one day. (PNA)
