Ilonggo bloggers push entrepreneurship

By Tara Yap
THERE’S money in blogging.

Online entrepreneurship is one of the advocacies of Iloilo Bloggers’ Inc. (IBI), the organizers of the 1st Visayas Blogging Summit next month.

“Unlike other businesses, blogging does not need big capital,” said IBI president Marie Claire Bretaña-Ponsaran.

Bretaña-Ponsaran explained that in this age when starting a business means having access to seed money, blogging and other information-technology related jobs including web marketing and web designing only requires fast and reliable Internet connection.

“It is an alternative means of livelihood for those who have less in financial resources,” Bretaña-Ponsaran noted.

Bretaña-Ponsaran cited blogger Marcos Caratao Jr. of exploreiloilo.com who was able to finish his nursing degree through ad earnings from his site.

The summit next month is expected to draw more than 200 Visayan bloggers and those based in Luzon and Mindanao.

Speakers will discuss on blogging for advocacy, role of bloggers as new media, selling the country through blogging, ethics, impacts of blogs and social networking sites to businesses, and citizen journalism.

The two-day summit expects to advocate the effect of blogging in society, especially on business and politics.
