Promotions for cops in P7-M cocaine haul

By Francis Allan L. Angelo

PROMOTIONS await police officers who helped track down and recover P7-million worth of cocaine from a suspected drug pusher in Miag-ao, Iloilo Tuesday.

C/Supt. Cipriano Querol, Police Regional Office (PRO-6) director, said he will seek a one-rank promotion for the police officers who aided the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the buy-bust operation.

Querol said the recovery of almost 1 kilo of cocaine from suspect Carlito Buen Jr. of Brgy. Maninila, Miagao is major accomplishment in the campaign against illegal drugs in Western Visayas.

PDEA head Paul Ledesma said the Guimbal and Miag-ao police provided information to them on Buen’s operations.

The cocaine, believed to be part of the Samar cocaine stash, was recovered under Buen’s bed mattress. Operatives also seized P48,000 cash and P1,300 mark-money.

But S/Insp. Fernando Limbungan got flak instead of favors from Querol when the latter sacked him as Miag-ao police chief.

Adriano was relieved due to his absence from the operations. He later went to the scene when the operation was winding up. Worse, he was in civilian clothes when he reported before his superior officer.

Querol said they are heightening their anti-illegal drugs operations by maximizing resources in suspected drug havens.

Meanwhile on Saturday, the PRO-6 will reactivate Task Force Bakhaw in Mandurriao district to maintain maximum police presence in one of the alleged drug hotspots of Iloilo City.
