By Francis Allan L. Angelo

THE filing of criminal raps against the suspects in the murder of businesswoman Rose Gustilo-Tan and her personal assistant was postponed upon request of the lawyers of the victim’s family.

C/Insp. Orly Gabinete, Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Investigation section chief, said there is a need to strengthen the case against the suspects by way of statements that will tag them to the victim.

Gabinete said they want an airtight case against the suspects, the reason why they acceded to the request of Tan’s family.

S/Supt. Dennis Basngi, ICPO director, dispelled reports that Tan’s family does not want the case to be tried in Iloilo City.

“They also want to make sure that the case is strong. Their lawyers are preparing the documents we prepared in the criminal case. They will give us the go signal to file the case if okay na ang lahat,” Basngi said.

Based on the latest monitoring by the police, the suspects in the death of Tan and her assistant Ma. Purificacion Catoera are nowhere to be found in Western Visayas.

Tan’s family has also sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to shed light on the twin murders.

Tan was found dead inside a motel in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on October 13 while Catoera’s body was found in Dumangas on October 11.

Business is believed to be the motive in Tan’s death.
