MIWD interim board bogus - Jed

By Lydia C. Pendon

MAYOR Jed Patrick Mabilog does not recognize the interim board of directors of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) saying the old board headed by Chairman Celso Javelosa is the legal one.

Meanwhile, Javelosa and his group filed a case in court asking for temporary restraining order (TRO) on Wednesday to stop the MIWD interim board headed by three Local Waterworks Utilities Administration (LWUA) officials and two local personalities from performing their functions.

Mabilog said he is set to bring the matter to court and had instructed the city legal office to immediately study and file legal actions against the interim board, MIWD general manager Le Jayme Jalbuena and other management officials for taking the law into their own hands by instigating the taking over of MIWD board.

The city mayor said it will be a test case for MIWD management since MIWD is doing business in the city and its offices are inside the city.

Mabilog admitted that he has no problem with the new interim board members Jessica Salas and Atty. Romeo Gerochi and is not personally interested in appointing the board members as “it will lighten my work load”. The city government will do things legally and the MIWD must give due courtesy to the city mayor, Mabilog said.

He said he is just protecting the interest of the city constituents and as a matter of courtesy, he should have been informed by the management of their action prior.
