PDEA twits rumors on death list of cops

By Francis Allan L. Angelo

DRUG syndicates are trying to scare the police and anti-drug agents by spreading yarns that more cops in Iloilo City are on their death list.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-6 head Paul Ledesma said the rumors that came out after the killing of PO2 Joemarie Lamis could be a form of psychological warfare from suspected drug lords in the city.

Ledesma said while the police and PDEA are not about to lower their guards against the syndicates, they are also careful not to fall for their “propaganda.”

“Let’s take note that Christmas season and Dinagyang festival are approaching. These are the peak periods of the illegal drug trade. Maybe these drug syndicates are trying to scare our authorities so they can operate without attracting heat,” he said.

Ledesma said drug syndicates want law enforcers to be scared and go slow on their drive against the illegal trade.

“The PNP and PDEA must not slacken in the campaign against illegal drugs. Their objective right now is for us to go slow on our operations so they can move with ease. We need a good offensive move against them so they will always be on the defensive side,” Ledesma said.

The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has filed murder cases against two suspects in the killing of PO2 Lamis who handled more than 50 drug cases.

Meanwhile, the ICPO and PDEA swooped down on Brgy. Bakhaw, Mandurriao once more last Wednesday.

The police led by C/Insp. Dande Deocampo and PDEA agents mounted a buy-bust operation past 6pm at Zone 2, Brgy. Bakhaw.

Among those arrested was Randy Del Rio, 38, of De Leon Street, Iloilo City after he handed suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.

Also arrested were Jeomar Mena, 37, George Mena, 34, Mycel Mena, 25, all residents of Zone 2 Brgy. Bakhaw, Mandurriao. The trio will be charged for alleged maintenance of a drug den.

The recoveries included 2 pieces of transparent plastic sachet with suspected shabu, P1,000 mark money and assorted drug paraphernalia.
