Police looking for fingerprint match in bizwoman’s murder

By Francis Allan L. Angelo

THE police in LaPaz, Iloilo City have completed “half” of the puzzling murder of a 72-year-old trader in the posh Ledesco Subdivision last week.

C/Insp. Giovanni Musico, LaPaz PNP chief, said they are awaiting the fingerprint analysis on two water refilling service employees who last saw Lolita Delgado Chan alive on May 19.

The fingerprints of the two water delivery boys were compared to the latent fingerprints found inside Chan’s house.

“If their fingerprints don’t match with the evidence we recovered from the crime scene, we will ask the victim’s immediate family to undergo the same fingerprint tests,” Musico said.

But Musico said he cannot compel Chan’s relatives to have their fingerprints analyzed if they refuse.

Apparently, the police also consider the victim’s family as suspects in her death.

Musico said the family’s inclusion in their investigation is part of the methodology in cracking the murder case.

“We are using scientific instrumentation in our investigation. So far, we have cracked more than 50% of the case and we hope to get more information in the following days,” he added.

Musico also urged Chan’s family to cooperate with the probe for the quick resolution of the case.

Except for their meeting with the police last week, Musico said the Chan family has yet to issue any statement or provide substantive information to authorities.

Chan, who was a spinster, died of stab wounds in her nape and back inside her home at Ledesco Subdivision.

She worked in the US before returning to Iloilo City where she operated a hardware store.
